WR Brian Tyms carted off field at New England Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass -- Wide receiver Brian Tyms, who was viewed as a leading candidate for the No. 4 or 5 spot on the depth chart, was carted off the field at New England Patriots training camp Tuesday.

Tyms took a big hit from cornerback Robert McClain in a fundamental-based one-on-one tackling drill. His right arm was held by athletic trainers as he was carted off.

Such contact is part of getting players into football shape. With Tyms departing, Brandon LaFell still on the physically unable to perform list and Julian Edelman not practicing (he appeared to come up gimpy Sunday), the Patriots had Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Brandon Gibson as top receivers Tuesday.

Tyms played in 12 games for the Patriots last season (including the playoffs), totaling five catches for 82 yards and one touchdown. He also plays as a gunner on the punt coverage team.
