Patriots place receiver Brandon Gibson on injured reserve

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Veteran New England Patriots receiver Brandon Gibson, who injured his knee in the fourth quarter of Saturday's preseason win over the Saints, was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Gibson was making a charge for a spot on the 53-man roster as a reserve, but seemed to sense the injury Saturday was significant.

"Just have to pray for the best, that's all you can do," he said after hobbling to his locker after taking an initial X-ray.

The Patriots have had a run of injuries at receiver, which sparked the team's one-year agreement with Reggie Wayne on Monday.

In addition, the team announced the signing of rookie linebacker D.J. Lynch.
