Analysis from the New England Patriots' cut-down from 90 to 75 players:

Most significant move: Cornerback Darryl Roberts, the seventh-round draft choice from Marshall, was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Roberts injured his wrist in the Aug. 13 preseason opener against the Packers, a game in which he started. He was showing promise in practice, with good ball skills, and had a solid chance to make the roster.

Fortifying the receiving corps: With a run of injuries at wide receiver, the Patriots have made two moves in the last 24 hours, trading for the Saints' Jalen Saunders and claiming the Vikings' DaVaris Daniels on waivers. Daniels is an undrafted free agent who played at Notre Dame. The Patriots shipped a conditional 2018 seventh-round pick to New Orleans in that deal. Saunders (5-foot-9, 165 pounds) and Daniels (6-1, 201 pounds) can help the Patriots get through the preseason finale Sept. 3 against the Giants.

Fletcher, Jones land on reserve/PUP: With linebacker Dane Fletcher and defensive tackle Chris Jones being moved to the reserve/physically unable to perform list, they will not be eligible to play for the first six weeks of the regular season. The moves were expected.

What's next: The Patriots host the Giants in the preseason finale Sept. 3 and then will shift focus quickly to the Sept. 10 NFL opener at home against the Steelers. The roster moves should come quickly after Thursday's preseason finale in which few top players are expected to play.

Patriots' cuts: WR Josh Boyce/injured reserve, WR Jonathan Krause/injured reserve, FB James Develin/injured reserve; OL Chris Barker; LB D.J. Lynch; DT Joe Vellano, LB Dekoda Watson, TE Jimmay Mundine, TE Jake Bequette/injured reserve (Aug. 28) OT Mark Asper (Aug. 27), LB Cameron Gordon (Aug. 27), DT Antonio Johnson (Aug. 27), CB Jimmy Jean (Aug. 26), WR Brian Tyms/injured reserve (Aug. 25), FB Eric Kettani (Aug. 25), WR Brandon Gibson/injured reserve (Aug. 24)
