Patriots bring free-agent WR Hakeem Nicks in for a workout

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- As part of the process of keeping their emergency lists updated, the New England Patriots had free-agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks in for a workout on Monday.

Nicks, formerly of the Giants, Colts and Titans, has been making the workout rounds with various NFL teams.

The seven-year veteran has 349 career receptions for 5,027 yards and 31 touchdowns.

New England appears to be well stocked at receiver when considering that Brandon LaFell -- one of the team's top two players at the position in 2014 -- will be eligible to begin practicing after this Sunday's game against the Colts. The current depth chart has Julian Edelman, Keshawn Martin, Danny Amendola and Aaron Dobson, with Matthew Slater an emergency option who contributes mostly on special teams.

In addition to Nicks, the Patriots also worked out tight end Nick Kasa and running back Isaiah Pead.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Kasa appeared in 16 games for the Raiders in 2013, totaling one catch for 9 yards and a touchdown. He played in college at Colorado.

The 5-foot-10, 204-pound Pead had been with the Rams since 2012, appearing in 27 games, totaling 19 carries for 78 yards in his career. He added 14 catches for 94 yards.
