Marcus Cannon's absence from walk-through adds context to status

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots are holding a walk-through practice Tuesday afternoon, and the absence of right tackle Marcus Cannon is an indication that he is highly unlikely to play Thursday night against the visiting Miami Dolphins.

Cannon injured his toe last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, leaving that game after the first series. He hasn't played since, with the club promoting Cameron Fleming off the practice squad.

In Sunday's win over the Jets, Fleming (2014 fourth-round pick) went wire to wire at right tackle, with Sebastian Vollmer flipping from right tackle to left tackle when Cannon left the game.

Because dangerous Dolphins rusher Cameron Wake most often aligns on the defensive left side, he is regularly matched up against the opposing team's right tackle. Thus, a Fleming-Wake matchup is naturally notable.

Elsewhere on the injury front, defensive end Jabaal Sheard (ankle) also wasn't present at practice, while receiver Keshawn Martin (hamstring) worked on a side field, which is an indication that he isn't ready yet.
