Patriots without LB Jamie Collins for game due to illness

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots will be without a key cog on defense, as starting linebacker Jamie Collins will miss Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins due to an illness.

Collins, who leads the team with 50 tackles, has 4.5 sacks and plays in all defensive packages, had been added to the injury report Saturday.

In his absence, reserves Jonathan Freeny, Jerod Mayo and Jon Bostic could see their roles expand alongside starter Dont'a Hightower.

In addition to Collins, running back James White, receiver Keshawn Martin, defensive end Trey Flowers, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, guard Tre' Jackson and defensive end Jabaal Sheard are inactive for the Patriots.

For Washington, quarterback Robert Griffin III, receiver Rashad Ross, cornerback DeAngelo Hall, defensive end Frank Kearse, center Kory Lichtensteiger, tight end Anthony McCoy and nose tackle Terrance Knighton are inactive.
