Patriots waive RB/FB Joey Iosefa; lose TE Asante Cleveland on waivers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots waived rookie running back/fullback Joey Iosefa on Monday, ending his two-week stint on the 53-man roster.

Iosefa, of Hawaii, had been promoted from the practice squad Dec. 19 and played in the win over Tennessee the next day, leading the team with 51 yards on 14 carries. The play he's remembered most for was a 15-yard run in the second quarter in which he steamrolled over defensive back Coty Sensabaugh.

Iosefa played 20 snaps in that game, but was limited to just three in Sunday's loss to the Jets as the addition of veteran rusher Steven Jackson added another layer to the depth chart. Iosefa's three snaps were all in a fullback-type role.

The Patriots currently have Jackson, Brandon Bolden and James White as running backs on their roster.

Meanwhile, tight end Asante Cleveland (waived Friday) and receiver Leonard Hankerson (waived Saturday) were both claimed on waivers -- Cleveland by the Chargers, and Hankerson by the Bills.
