BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Veteran defensive end Chris Long, who officially signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots on Friday, is connecting with fans over social media as he considers his jersey number choices.
May be 95. Not much available. Just got the blessing from Chan. What ya think? 🔴⚪️🔵 GO PATS! https://t.co/rDgj9lLdNq— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) March 21, 2016
It's respectful. He had almost 40 over four years. If I left the rams after going 40+ in 4 I figure next dude asks. https://t.co/BEyOX6rg0d— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) March 21, 2016
It's an option but worried I may look a bit like a slow hustle guy. H-LO was an exception https://t.co/AVPOJXsgn4— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) March 21, 2016
One thing Long relayed late Sunday night is that he asked former Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones if it was OK to take his No. 95, and Jones gave him the thumbs-up. As for why he felt like he should ask Jones, Long explained. And he also discussed the possibility of taking No. 75, in honor of his father, Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long.
