Marcus Cannon, LaAdrian Waddle still Patriots' top swing tackle options

Every Saturday throughout the offseason, one question from Twitter will be selected to further explore a relevant topic around the New England Patriots.

Bryan, this is one of the areas that is topical to address after the draft because the Patriots didn't select an offensive tackle, nor did they sign an undrafted or veteran free agent at the position. So they're going with the status quo for now, which seems to be good news for last year's top backup options, Marcus Cannon and LaAdrian Waddle. If the Patriots wanted to consider Williams there, he's done it before with the Lions, so it's not completely out of the question. But my feeling is that he has more value to the team as a tight end.

We know returning offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia has praised Cannon in the past, calling him a "special kid" and a "starting-quality player" back in 2013. But with his base salary rising to $3.4 million in 2016, and his inconsistent performance in 2015, Cannon's place on the roster didn't appear to be very secure at the start of the offseason.

I thought this position was a top need for the club, but the way things have unfolded, it suggests that Bill Belichick & Co., believe the answers are in-house with Cannon and possibly Waddle.
