Alonzo Gee returning to New Orleans Pelicans

Alonzo Gee will return to the New Orleans Pelicans, his agency, Priority Sports, announced on Thursday.

Gee is expected to sign a one-year deal, as first reported by The Vertical.

Before free agency began, the 29-year-old defensive specialist exercised his player option for the 2016-17 season worth $1,379,400.

Gee averaged 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 22.4 minutes per game in his first season with the Pelicans after signing as an unrestricted free agent last offseason. New Orleans’ multitude of injuries amid a disappointing 30-52 season forced the NBA journeyman into a career-high 38 starts before a ruptured right quad suffered on March 28 ended his season.

The Pelicans also officially announced the free-agent signings of Solomon Hill, E'Twaun Moore and Langston Galloway. Reported deals for Terrence Jones, Tim Frazier, Gee and second-rounder Cheick Diallo, as well as for first-round pick Buddy Hield, have yet to be formally announced.
