Saints sign seven practice-squad players to future contracts

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints signed seven of their practice-squad players to reserve/future contracts for the 2015 season on Monday -- the first day that NFL teams were eligible to do so.

The Saints signed running back Edwin Baker, center Michael Brewster, tight end Orson Charles, kicker Dustin Hopkins, guard Andrew Miller, fullback Toben Opurum and receiver Willie Snead.

Last week, the Saints activated three other players from their practice squad to get a jump on signing them to long-term contracts -- quarterback Ryan Griffin, receiver Brandon Coleman and linebacker Jerry Franklin.

The Saints will likely start adding players from other places in the near future as well -- either off the street or from other leagues like the Canadian Football League -- as they begin to fill out their 90-man offseason roster.
