METAIRIE, La. – Keenan Lewis finally seems to be on the mend after a frustrating battle with a hip/sports hernia injury over the past two months.
One of the biggest keys to his recovery?
“Google,” the New Orleans Saints cornerback said.
Lewis said he read about MAT (Muscle Activation Technique), which Peyton Manning had used to help recover from his neck injury. And Lewis found someone that offered the technique locally – Dr. Mike Morris, near Lafayette, Louisiana.
“I went to him like three or four times, and every time I’ve been seeing progress. So whatever the technique he’s doing, MAT, it’s definitely been helping me out a lot,” said Lewis, who also credited Saints trainers Beau Lowery, Ben Stollberg and Reggie Stone, among others. “They’re helping me out a lot.”
Lewis admitted that he doesn’t know the specifics about MAT or how it works. But he said, “I’m big on it now. I’m putting it as part of my program now.”
Lewis played a season-high 27 snaps during New Orleans’ 52-49 victory over the New York Giants last Sunday and held up well. He practiced fully on Wednesday and remained on the practice field Thursday after he had been limited in practice in recent weeks.
“I feel pretty good,” Lewis said. “I’m still working out a lot of soreness. But every week I hope … to increase my reps and just get the groove back.”
