Giants' Johnathan Hankins fined for sideline hit on Saints' Mark Ingram

METAIRIE, La. -- Apparently the NFL frowns upon players making tackles when they’re not in the game.

New York Giants defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins was fined $8,681 for lowering a shoulder into New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram last Sunday when Hankins was standing on the sideline and Ingram ran out of bounds in his vicinity.

Ingram was tackled by linebacker Jasper Brinkley in the second quarter, and their momentum carried them out of bounds. Hankins braced himself as they came near him, then leaned his shoulder into Ingram.

Saints cornerback Brandon Browner was also fined $8,681 for his unnecessary roughness penalty against Giants receiver Rueben Randle in the first quarter. Browner was also penalized for tackling Randle out of bounds, spinning him around and slamming him to the turf with more emphasis than was necessary after Randle had stepped out. However, in this case Browner was one of the 11 men on the field at the time.
