NFLN survey/popular coach: Saints

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll lived up to his reputation as a player-friendly coach when he was voted as the NFL coach that most players would like to play for in a NFL Nation confidential survey. Carroll finished first at 22.5 percent, followed by Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin (13.8 percent).

Both of those names came up a few times when I presented this question to New Orleans Saints players (who were not allowed to vote for their own coach, Sean Payton). Often, players' votes seemed to be based on what they had heard from friends around the league.

The votes were pretty well spread out in this category. Payton finished seventh with a total of 21 votes (6.6 percent). But it was a pretty tight group from No. 3 through No. 7 (John Fox 25 votes, Rex Ryan 23 votes, Bill Belichick and Andy Reid 22 votes each).
