The New York Giants worked out three kickers Tuesday with a decision about the position on the horizon.
Veterans Shayne Graham and Cody Parkey, along with Aldrick Rosas had tryouts, according to a source. Graham had a prior stint with the Giants while Parkey made a Pro Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Giants kicker Josh Brown is currently set to serve a one-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence arrest last year. Charges were eventually dropped but he was banned for a violation of the league's conduct policy.
Veteran kicker Randy Bullock is set to serve as the Giants’ Week 1 kicker. As a vested veteran who has not collected termination pay, Bullock would be eligible to collect his entire $675,000 salary if he’s cut following the opener in Dallas.
Brown was re-signed this offseason to a two-year, $4 million deal that included $1 million guaranteed. The Giants said they were aware of all the details of his arrest before making the move and “were comfortable” with the decision to re-sign Brown.
At some point, the Giants will have to make a move with their kickers. Brown is on a reserve/suspended list, and does not currently count against the 53-man roster.
Parkey, 24, would be a logical option for this week if the Giants decided to make a move before Sunday. He made the Pro Bowl in 2014 with the Eagles after connecting on 32 of 36 kicks and made 3 of 4 field-goal attempts last season. But Parkey lost the Eagles' kicking competition to Caleb Sturgis this summer, and could be a more fiscally responsible option to the Giants for a one-week position.
Being on the roster at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon guaranteed Bullock his Week 1 salary. But he’s not guaranteed the full amount unless he’s on the roster for Sunday’s game on the road against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys.
Rosas, a rookie out of Southern Oregon, spent this summer with the Tennessee Titans.
