In a mild surprise, the New York Jets' final round of cuts Saturday included quarterbacks Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson, according to sources. Both performed well in the final preseason game as they battled for what appears to be a short-term No. 2 job.
For now, it leaves rookie Bryce Petty as the backup to starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. The only other quarterback on the roster is Geno Smith, who is recovering from a broken jaw.
Flynn, who tweeted the news of his release, seemed to be taking the news rather well. Hey, why not? He made $60,000 (his signing bonus) for two weeks of work.
Cheers!
