NFL free agency creates weird situations.
On Tuesday night, unsigned quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was hanging out at Madison Square Garden with a few of his former New York Jets teammates, Nick Mangold, Bryce Petty and Eric Decker, who posted a video of the outing on his Instagram account. Fitzpatrick and Mangold, decked out in New York Rangers jerseys, seem to be having a great time at the Rangers-Pittsburgh Penguins playoff game.
Meanwhile, about 30 miles to the west of Manhattan, free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer was arriving in Florham Park, New Jersey, to begin his overnight visit with the Jets. Basically, Hoyer is interviewing for Fitzpatrick's job.
The Jets and Fitzpatrick are locked in a contract impasse, but it's obvious he has strong support in the locker room. On Monday, Decker told reporters that he and fellow wide receiver Brandon Marshall sent video clips to Fitzpatrick, letting him know they were thinking about him on the first day of the offseason program.
On Tuesday night, Decker didn't have to send video to Fitzpatrick. Instead, they made one.
