Johnson: Kidd hiring just makes sense

Ex-Nets coach Avery Johnson thinks the Jason Kidd hiring “makes all the sense in the world.”

Johnson said he told his friends that Kidd would be the next coach of the Nets after the team missed out on top target Phil Jackson.

“Even though he’s an unproven commodity as a head coach, he still brings the hype, the fanfare, he’s the greatest player in my opinion in Nets history, it just makes all the sense in the world,” Johnson said on “First Take” Monday while also mentioning Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov. “New arena, he has a great relationship with Deron Williams, so it was just a lot of factors that brought it together where he made sense as their next head coach.”

Johnson, who was fired this past season after the team got off to a 14-14 start, was asked why teams are making so many coaching changes these days.

“There’s a greater level of impatience on the part of ownership,” Johnson said. “It’s a different world with social media. When I was coaching the Nets, every night we won or lost I always got fired [on Twitter] because people are just impatient.”
