The Brooklyn Nets are still awaiting the return of Deron Williams.
They got Jason Terry back Wednesday night in Boston.
In his preseason debut with the Nets, the 15-year pro scored 7 points, dished out 3 assists and grabbed 2 rebounds in 24 minutes. He went 3-for-7 from the field, knocking down a pair of jumpers off screens and a 3-pointer from his favorite spot on the floor: the right corner.
Terry had been recovering from offseason surgery on his left knee.
“I thought I felt pretty good, still a little rusty,” Terry told YES Network after the game. “You could see that at times. ... But other than that, it was good to be out there with my teammates. My wind was good, so my conditioning was great. I look forward to getting after it against Miami [on Friday].”
This season, the Nets will look to the 36-year-old Terry, a former Sixth Man of the Year award-winner, to serve as one of the anchors on their bench. He might not be able to fill it up the way he once did, but Terry can still knock down shots.
“It’s a work in progress,” Terry said of the team’s bench. “We’re still trying to work on our chemistry.”
Terry, who returned to Boston for the first time since he was traded to the Nets in the offseason, won a championship in Dallas with Jason Kidd.
“It’s been nothing different from when he was a player,” Terry said when asked about Kidd’s transition to coaching the Nets. “He’s very calm. There’s nothing he hasn’t seen out there on the floor, and he knows when to give his guys rest. He thought the big five needed a rest tonight, and they got it.”
