Pierce ill, hopes to play vs. Wizards

WASHINGTON, DC -- An ill Paul Pierce missed the Brooklyn Nets' morning shootaround but head coach Jason Kidd is hopeful the forward can play against Washington tonight.

Pierce began to feel ill last night and Kidd said the Nets (2-2) are still planning on having the veteran available tonight in Washington.

"He's under the weather right now," Kidd said. "We'll see. We got plenty guys that can step up and take that position but right now we plan on Paul playing. We'll see how he feels but if we have to make the adjustment we will."

Pierce is averaging 15.8 points and 5.3 rebounds so far on the season. If Pierce can't play, Andrei Kirilenko, Jason Terry and Alan Anderson could see more minutes.

"He didn't feel good last night," Kidd said. "We were hoping he would feel better for shootaround. Since he's not, we left him back and we'll see how he feels."
