WASHINGTON -- The Brooklyn Nets don’t lose games when leading after three quarters.

Except when they play the Washington Wizards.

The Nets dropped to 31-2 in games in which they lead after three quarters, squandering a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in a 101-94 loss to the Wizards in front of a playoff-like atmosphere at Verizon Center.

The Nets did not hit a field goal in the final 6:21.

What it means: The Nets (33-31) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end and fell back into sixth place behind the Wizards (35-31) in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.

The Nets are now 0-3 against the Wizards this season.

Their only other loss when leading after three quarters? Nov. 8, 2013 ... in D.C.

The Nets were outscored 29-15 in the fourth.

Brooklyn gave up 100 points for the first time in nine games (7-1 in their previous eight).

John Wall had his way with the Nets, scoring 33 points on 10-for-15 shooting. Drew Gooden of all people chipped in 21.

Marcus Thornton, who had scored just 10 points in his previous two games, erupted for 19 in this one on 7-for-11 shooting. He had Brooklyn’s last field goal.

Deron Williams started off hot, finishing with 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal in the first quarter. But he went to the locker room at the beginning of the second quarter, came back and wasn’t the same. His final line: 14 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, two steals.

Williams, who did not hit a shot in the final three quarters, nearly completed his first dunk of the season at the end of the second quarter, but he was denied by the rim. He now has at least one steal in 14 consecutive games -- a new personal best.

Paul Pierce surpassed Patrick Ewing to move into sole possession of 18th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Ex-Wizard Andray Blatche heard the boo birds once again pretty much every time he did something.

Kevin Garnett missed his eighth straight game due to back spasms. Andrei Kirilenko returned after a two-game absence due to a sprained right ankle. Kirilenko went 1-for-4 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
