NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets purchased the 44th overall pick of the 2014 NBA draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves for $1 million, according to ESPN’s Andy Katz, and selected Markel Brown.
AGE: 22
COLLEGE: Oklahoma State
POSITION: G
HEIGHT: 6-foot-3
WEIGHT: 190
Player stats: Brown averaged 17.2 points and 5.3 rebounds during his senior season at OK State while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range. His shooting percentages increased during each of his four seasons in college.
Did you know? Brown’s backcourt mate, Marcus Smart, was selected sixth overall by the Boston Celtics. He was once Mr. Basketball in the state of Louisiana. And, apparently, Brown can predict the future.
Chad Ford's positives: Elite athlete; explosive leaper; long wingspan; solid rebounder for his size.
Ford's negatives: Undersized for position; streaky shooter.
He can fly: Brown is athletic. His 43.5-inch vertical tied for the best at the NBA combine. Sounds like a mini-Mason Plumlee. ESPN’s Jay Bilas added that Brown is an excellent midrange shooter and a solid individual defender. It seems like he’ll provide depth at the guard position behind the likes of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson.
