Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December/January on Wednesday.
Pierre-Paul had 37 tackles (28 solo) and six sacks in the team's final five regular-season games, including a pair of sacks against the Cowboys in Week 14 and another pair against the Jets in Week 16. He also blocked a game-tying field goal attempt in that first of two wins over the Cowboys.
In just his second year out of South Florida, Pierre-Paul posted a total of 16.5 sacks, becoming only the third Giant in history with at least 16 in a season. The other two? Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan.
And although he's very excited about the upcoming playoffs, he is already looking forward to his third NFL regular season, too. Said Pierre-Paul on Wednesday, "Next year, or next season in 2012, I should be better than this year."
A scary thought for the rest of the NFC East, and the NFL.
