Cruz still waiting on new contract

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Wide receiver Victor Cruz hoped to have a new contract with the Giants by the end of this season. But two days before the team's regular-season finale, Cruz still doesn't have a new deal.

"I’m not disappointed," Cruz said Friday. "I think we’re still moving in the right direction. It’s a negotiation. Everything’s not gonna happen the way you want it to. We’re just going back and forth, and hopefully we’ll get things squared away."

Cruz has proven he was no one-year wonder, posting his second straight 1,000-yard season in 2012. The 26-year-old has 82 catches for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns. That ranks him 14th in the NFL in receiving yards, and tied for eighth in receiving touchdowns. And he was named to the NFC Pro Bowl squad for the first time earlier this week.

"I'm just being patient. I’m in no rush," Cruz said. "I’m gonna enjoy this last game, hopefully enjoy this playoff berth, if not enjoy the Pro Bowl and just relax a little bit."

The Giants need to beat the Eagles on Sunday, just to have a chance to make the postseason. They also need the Bears, Vikings and Cowboys to lose their final games.

"I feel like there’s no pressure for us," Cruz said. "We’ve just got to go out there and take care of business."

The wideout admitted that the team felt some tension the past few weeks.

"I think whether we even knew it or not, I think there was some pressure, obviously, going into the last four games where we had to win and we had to keep doing the things we had to do with everybody looking back at last year," Cruz said. "So I think there was a little bit of pressure there, but I think all that pressure is kind of gone and we just want to go out and play football and finish the year right if it’s going to be our last one."
