Kiwanuka: Stars aligning for Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- If the Giants want to make a run at the NFC East title, they know they're going to need some help. While it's still early in the year, help came Sunday when Detroit rallied to beat Dallas, the NFC East leaders, in the final seconds of their game.

The Giants may be just 2-6 and still long shots to win the division, but getting those kind of breaks has Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka believing things may be turning around for Big Blue.

"Right now for things to be turned around, I just feel like you know what, the stars are lining up for us. Starting off like that, you're not supposed to have a shot but we still do and we know it. So let's just go for it," Kiwanuka said on the Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show on ESPN 98.7 FM. "Regardless of how it has to happen, if we get there and at the end of the year if we're holding up that trophy, that's all we're focused on."

The Giants have little room for error, but with Dallas only two games ahead in the division, and Philadelphia and Washington struggling, the Giants somehow find themselves in the mix. Kiwanuka echoed linebacker Jon Beason's thoughts from Sunday when it came to possibly winning the division.

"We have to believe. That's what we're here for. If we're not mathematically eliminated from it, then we're going to go full speed ahead," Kiwanuka said. "I believe that we have the personnel, the resolve and the skill set to get it done. Why not? Why shouldn't it be us?"
