Tollefson suffers MCL injury; Bomar on way to Minnesota

Tom Coughlin said defensive end Dave Tollefson suffered a sprained MCL knee injury on Sunday.

Tollefson could miss the remainder of the regular season with the injury but be back for the postseason if the Giants make it.

Linebacker Chase Blackburn missed two games earlier this season with a sprained MCL.

The NFL has yet to release its latest playoff scenarios. It could give its official postseason breakdown of possibilities after the Monday night game between the Vikings and Bears.

Unofficially, the Giants will clinch a playoff spot if they beat the Packers.

The Minnesota Vikings were set to sign third-string quarterback Rhett Bomar off the Giants practice squad. Head coach Tom Coughlin confirmed that the Vikings were in the process of signing Bomar on Monday.

With Tarvaris Jackson out for the year, the Vikings wanted to add another quarterback and plucked Bomar away.

The Giants liked Bomar’s potential but he couldn’t secure the backup position to Eli Manning in training camp.

The Giants opted to trade with the Vikings for Sage Rosenfels.
