Devin Thomas isn’t taking anything for granted yet.
Despite totaling 138 yards on three kickoff returns against Chicago, including a 73-yard return, Thomas isn’t allowing himself to think that he has a roster spot locked up as the kick returner until he's on the field playing against his former team, the Redskins, in the season opener on Sept. 11.
“Until I make that [final roster] and they put me back there in the first game against them Deadskins, then I will say it’s my job,” Thomas said of the team that drafted him in the second round in 2008 before releasing him last season.
Thomas has impressed head coach Tom Coughlin so far.
“I liked what I saw,” Coughlin said. “He had fire in his eyes and explosion out of there. He was physical with it because of the long one obviously but when I look at something with our team and see 46 yards a return, I say, ‘Are you sure you are talking about our team?’ That is a good thing.”
Thomas has also looked good at receiver in camp and it would be surprising if he didn't secure a roster spot with his performance against the Bears.
