New York Islanders defensive prospect Mark Katic appears headed for surgery, a source told ESPNNewYork.com
According to the source, Katic suffered a torn labrum after dislocating his left shoulder in one of the team's rookie games against Boston earlier this week.
The 22-year-old Porcupine, Ontario native made his Islanders debut last season and played 11 games with the team.
If Katic does require surgery--which has yet to be finalized--it will be his second shoulder surgery in two years. He had surgery on the same shoulder two seasons ago.
Bad break for the small, but gritty defenseman who could've battled for a spot on the Islanders' back end in camp.
