FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Matt Slauson did not want to talk about the $10,000 fine the NFL issued him for a season-ending block on Houston linebacker Brian Cushing.
"I'm not discussing anything about the fine," said Slauson, who is appealing the fine.
Cushing suffered a season-ending ACL injury as a result of the hit. He was asked if he thought the hit was illegal.
"Whether it was or it wasn't, I'm not playing for a while," Cushing said, according to the Associated Press. "That's not going to change my opinion on anything. I'm not a guy that's going to look back at the past and see what I could've done differently. I'm going to look into the future and see how I can improve."
Jets coach Rex Ryan also declined to get into specifics when asked about Slauson's fine on Friday.
"I don't really want to get into it," Ryan said. "My big thing is what I've said from Day 1 and I'll stick with it. That's that I know the intent of Matt Slauson was never, never to injure Brian Cushing. It's unfortunate that happened."
The NFL ruled that Slauson performed an illegal peel-back block. It was illegal because it was initiated from the back or side, and those blocks can only be initiated in front of an opponent.
"I feel bad anytime anybody gets fined," Jets center Nick Mangold said. "But he'll got through the appeal process and hopefully it works out well for him."
DREW TOLD TO START? A report in Newsday quoted Colts backup quarterback Drew Stanton on his understanding with the Jets when he was briefly a backup in the pre-Tim Tebow era.
"Had [Mark] Sanchez struggled, they said I'd have a chance to play," Stanton said. "So there was no better opportunity than that, and I was excited about it."
On Friday, Ryan said that wasn't his recollection on what Stanton's arrangement was in New York.
"No, I don't remember that," Ryan said. "I just remember that we were happy to have him. We thought he'd be a good No. 2 quarterback and that's why we signed him originally."
TIME TO HEAL: CB Darrelle Revis is scheduled to have surgery on his torn ACL next Thursday. He will be placed on season-ending IR in order to sign safety Antonio Allen to the roster for Sunday's game, according to a source.
WR Santonio Holmes had surgery on his foot on Wednesday and Ryan said he is expected to be ready for the offseason program. LB Josh Mauga had surgery on Friday to repair an injured pectoral muscle.
ROOM FOR DEBATE: Tebow watched the vice-presidential debate, but he wasn't prepared to weigh in on it when asked on Friday.
"I like learning, listening, trying to understand what everyone is saying," Tebow said. "I try to take in all the facts and listen and try to I guess make a wise choice in it."
