Growing pains for Stephen Hill

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It was a rough night for New York Jets receiver Stephen Hill. He reached for an opponent's facemask in a burst of frustration -- costing the Jets 15 yards -- fumbled a catch and was taken after the game to have his wrist X-rayed.

"I fell on it when I got pass interference," Hill said. "I just taped it up and as a precaution they just wanted to make sure that wasn't anything wrong with it. Everything's good."

Hill caught all four balls sent his way for 56 yards as the Jets defeated the New York Giants 24-21 in overtime. He said he had a decent enough night with a caveat: "Minus the fumble. I wish I could have gotten that back."

Smith wasn't the only Jets receiver to cost rookie quarterback Geno Smith some yards. Three of Smith's passes were dropped, including throws to Jeremy Kerley, Bilal Powell and Ben Obomanu.

But those issues paled when compared to the quarterback situation. Smith struggled and Mark Sanchez injured his throwing shoulder.

"We need both Geno and Mark," Hill said.
