Injury report: Nick Folk misses practice with hip injury

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Two days after missing two field goals, New York Jets kicker Nick Folk missed practice with a hip injury. Coach Rex Ryan said he expected Folk to be ready for the Vikings game on Sunday.

Folk said he hurt his hip while warming up early in the third quarter, before his 45-yard field goal -- the one that deflected over the crossbar.

“It just didn’t feel right going into those (last) two kicks,” Folk said. “But no excuses.”

Folk had one of the worst games in recent memory in the 16-13 loss to the visiting Dolphins. During one stretch last season, he hit 23 consecutive field goals. In 2013, Folk his 33 of 36 field goals. Before this season he signed a four-year deal worth $12 million.

Folk said he hopes that he can play on Sunday.

“I feel optimistic about it,” Folk said. “I want to help these guys win games. I feel pretty poorly about what happened the other day, so I want to go out and hopefully get a win.”

Folk underwent surgery in May of 2009 for a labral tear to his right hip.
