No. 3 QB Matt Simms signs extension

Matt Simms will get another shot next season with the New York Jets. The third-string quarterback renegotiated his contract, meaning he won't become an exclusive-rights free agent.

Simms spent the first half of last season on the practice squad, but he was called up when Geno Smith suffered a minor shoulder injury. The Jets kept him on the 53-man roster for the remainder of the season. He ended up playing in only one game (a total of 11 snaps). He completed 3 of 8 passes for 39 yards.

The Jets signed three more players to reserve-future contracts, bringing the total to eight. They are: kicker Andrew Furney, linebacker Mario Harvey, defensive back Keith Lewis, cornerback Dashaun Phillips, tackle Brent Qvale, running back Daryl Richardson, punter Jake Schum and linebacker Chris Young.
