It's official, Mangold out

Jets C Nick Mangold gave up the petition today, and admitted to himself what was probably clear to coach Rex Ryan and Jets trainers all week. His high ankle sprain hasn't healed enough for him to play this Sunday in Oakland.

"Yes," Mangold said. "I think that (decision) has been made. I won’t be traveling, so I’ll be out."

You can read more about what Mangold said, as well as hear from his rookie backup Colin Baxter.

"He sits with Mangold in meetings and Rob Turner afterwards," Ryan said. "He’s always talking (and) communicating. Then, he goes out on to the practice field and he’s had some good practices. That’s really encouraging to me. His teammates are really helping him, but at the end of the day, he has to do the things outside of the building and I think he’s doing that."

It was a short practice for the Jets as they look to get to the west coast. Ryan came into his daily press conference and declared it "Fast Friday!" There were no surprises on the injury report.

WHO PLAYS? WR Logan Payne (wrist) and OL Rob Turner (ankle) are out. Mohammad Wilkerson (shoulder) is questionable on the injury report and was limited in practice. He will likely play, Ryan said, along with those who are listed as probable and limited in practice: DE Mike DeVito (shoulder), WR Santonio Holmes (quadricep) LB David Harris (toe), S Jim Leonhard (hammy), S Eric Smith (ankle). At full practice and probable on injury report: DT Marcus Dixon (knee), QB Mark Sanchez (elbow), WR Derrick Mason (knee).
