Fields named top rookie again

Landry Fields was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the second time in a row (the Clippers' Blake Griffin did the same out west). Among East rookies, Fields ranked second in scoring (8.8 ppg), third in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and led all rookies in steals (1.23 spg). Among all guards in the league, not just rookies, he remains No. 1 in boards at 7.4 per game.

Fields started all 13 games for the Knicks during the month, scored in double figures in six of them and recorded five games with 10 or more rebounds. This month, his three-point shooting slightly improved, which was his biggest weakness early in the season. He went from shooting 28.6% (10 of 35) in November to 42.9% (15 of 35) in December. Now he needs to focus on his free throw shooting (62.5% during the month), especially as he's missed a couple of key ones in several previous losses.
