Danny Muno demoted to Las Vegas

MIAMI -- New York Mets utility infielder Danny Muno's initial exposure to the major leagues has ended.

Muno was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas after Monday’s 3-1 win against the Miami Marlins. The move was needed to clear a roster spot for Rafael Montero, who will make a spot start on Tuesday at Marlins Park.

Muno, 26, went 1-for-6 with three strikeouts in four games. He started at designated hitter on Sunday against the New York Yankees.

The Mets are expected to return Montero to Las Vegas after Tuesday’s spot start. As long as the bullpen is not taxed, they might call up an infielder such as Wilfredo Tovar at that point. He would stay in the majors until David Wright is ready to return from the disabled list as soon as this weekend.
