Dillon Gee accepts assignment to Las Vegas

MILWAUKEE -- Right-hander Dillon Gee, who cleared outright waivers on Tuesday, has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas, New York Mets assistant GM John Ricco confirmed.

Gee had been expected to report. While he had the option to declare free agency because of his major league service time, he would have forfeited the $3.1 million remaining on his contract this season.

Gee will have another option to declare free agency immediately after the season if he is not promoted and returned to the 40-man roster by season's end.

Gee, 29, was 0-3 with a 5.90 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts) for the Mets before being designated for assignment last Monday.
