Olney: Reds would swap Jay Bruce for Mets' Zack Wheeler

NEW YORK -- The Cincinnati Reds are willing to trade outfielder Jay Bruce to the New York Mets for right-hander Zack Wheeler, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

Wheeler was due to be sent with Wilmer Flores to the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez before the deal fell apart late Thursday. Gomez reportedly is now headed to the Houston Astros.

Bruce, 28, is signed for 2016 at $12.5 million. There also is a team option for 2017 at $13 million.

Bruce entered Thursday hitting .257 with 17 homers and 56 RBIs in 346 at-bats.
