Erik Goeddel begins rehab assignment

NEW YORK -- Erik Goeddel's rehab assignment officially began Sunday when the right-handed reliever pitched for Class A St. Lucie.

Goeddel, who was placed on the DL on June 12 with a right elbow strain, allowed one run on three singles in the eighth while recording two outs. He notched one strikeout in the 22-pitch effort.

Goeddel was transferred to the 60-day DL coinciding with Tyler Clippard's acquisition in order to free a 40-man roster spot. As a result, he will not be eligible to be activated until Aug. 11.

Goeddel, 26, has a 1.96 ERA in 23 innings for the New York Mets this season.
