DENVER -- Left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez is making a U-turn back to Triple-A Las Vegas without appearing in a game.
Alvarez, who joined the New York Mets a day earlier, was demoted after Sunday's 5-1 series-ending win against the Colorado Rockies. The New York Mets needed to clear a roster spot for David Wright's activation from the disabled list on Monday in Philadelphia.
Logan Verrett was spared the demotion after limiting Colorado to one run in eight innings in his first major league start. Verrett will be unavailable the next three days as he recovers from the 93-pitch effort. Beginning Thursday, he will be available for late-inning relief work, likely as the primary seventh-inning choice leading into Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia.
