Three Mets first-round picks might be headed to doctor

WASHINGTON -- Brandon Nimmo, Gavin Cecchini and Dominic Smith, the New York Mets' first-round picks from 2011 through 2013, all ended their seasons injured and might be headed to examinations with team doctors.

Nimmo (knee) and Cecchini (hip) will be seen shortly. Smith (shoulder) might not need to be examined by team doctors.

"Dom seems to be improving, but may be seen anyway just to make sure," Mets VP Paul DePodesta said.

Nimmo, 22, hit .269/.362/.372, primarily while splitting his season between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini, 21, hit .317/.377/.442 while spending the full season with Binghamton. He also committed 28 errors at shortstop, resulting in a .943 fielding percentage.

Smith, 20, hit .305/.354/.417 with Class A St. Lucie. A first baseman, Smith was named Florida State League Player of the Year.
