Mets set to use regular starting pitchers on Monday

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The New York Mets will begin using their incumbent starting pitchers in Grapefruit League action on Monday.

Bartolo Colon is due to pitch in a home split-squad game against the Detroit Tigers that day, while Steven Matz will travel to Jupiter to face the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Mets are holding their starting pitchers out of the opening handful of Grapefruit League games because of their extreme workloads in 2015 thanks to reaching the World Series.

Rafael Montero started Thursday's exhibition-season opener. Logan Verrett faces the Miami Marlins on Friday afternoon. Robert Gsellman will start against the Houston Astros in Kissimmee on Saturday, while Sean Gilmartin faces the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at Tradition Field.
