Ike won't return in 2011

Ike Davis will avoid baseball activities and running for the next four weeks and will be reevaluated Sept. 1, Sandy Alderson said. The GM added that the organization does not plan for Davis to return in 2011.

The question has been whether Davis eventually will need microfracture surgery to address cartilage damage in his left ankle. Alderson said they hoped to avoid surgery, but doctors believe it would not impact 2012 even if he required it in four weeks.

Davis originally injured the ankle in a collision with David Wright in Denver on May 10. He had attempted to run this week in Phoenix.

Also, Alderson said he still hoped Johan Santana would appear in the majors by the end of the season.
