Report: Mets likely to chop minors team

The Mets are likely to trim their number of minor league teams -- dropping their affiliation with Kingsport, Tenn., which dates back to 1980 -- according to the Post. Mets luminaries who've played for the Rookie-level team on the way to the majors include David Wright, Jose Reyes, Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry.

The Mets are in cost-saving mode, trimming from every department. Among the recent casualties was the team's Pacific Rim scout and even a part-time worker at the team's Florida complex, sources told ESPNNewYork.com.
