New York Mets
David Wright, who fractured his right pinkie diving back into first base on a pickoff throw Monday, is permitted to test the finger and resume baseball when he feels like he is capable, the team announced.
Wright was fitted for a splint Wednesday and examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Thursday.
The Mets open a six-game road trip Friday in Philadelphia. Terry Collins said he expected Wright could return quickly.
The Mets said in a statement: "The injury to the little finger on David Wright's right hand was re-evaluated today by a hand specialist in New York who reiterated that David can return to baseball activity as tolerated. His playing status will be reviewed again tomorrow in Philadelphia prior to the game."
