Vinny Rottino is expected to rejoin the Mets today in Pittsburgh as the bench returns to five position players for the series opener against the Pirates, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com. Rottino became eligible for the promotion Monday after spending 10 days in the minors.
Rottino had a three-homer game Saturday for Triple-A Buffalo. He also ran his International League hitting streak to 20 games before it was snapped.
The Mets will be going from 13 to 12 pitchers. The simplest and most likely move would be to return Chris Schwinden to the minors. Manny Acosta appeared vulnerable in recent days, but that was more so before Jeremy Hefner was required to slide into the rotation for injured Miguel Batista.
