Shaun Marcum tossed 52 pitches over five scoreless innings in an extended spring training game Monday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Assuming Marcum feels OK in ensuing days, he is due to be activated from the disabled list Saturday to face the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.
Marcum opened the season on the DL with neck and shoulder pain related to a nerve issue.
He threw additional pitches in the bullpen after Monday's appearance to increase his workload. Mets manager Terry Collins estimated Marcum would max out at 90 pitches Saturday.
Marcum allowed four hits and no walks in Monday's appearance.
The Mets designated fill-in Aaron Laffey for assignment Sunday, when they promoted lefty reliever Robert Carson.
