Reliever Robert Carson's first major league plate appearance -- which came against Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw -- resulted in a walk and ultimately a run scored. And the southpaw couldn't help but get a chuckle out of it, even after the Mets lost, 7-2.

"I have no idea," Carson said about how he worked the walk. "When I got to first base, Adrian Gonzalez said, 'Hey, hold your head up, because getting a walk off him is like a hit. So congratulations.' I don't know, man. I told myself I was going to take one swing. And I got to foul one back. I just kind of knew it was a tight situation and I didn't want to swing at it out of the zone. So I just kind of went to just trying to watch the ball all the way through and got a lucky walk. I'll take it."
As for his baserunning, Carson said he received a lecture from coach Tom Goodwin upon arriving at first.
Said Carson: "He said, 'Cars, don't even get an inch off the base.' I just got a little, normal lead. I didn't think [Kershaw] was going to 'pick,' because I wasn't going. He picked off, and I'm glad I got back in ahead of the tag, because I was a little tardy. But I got back. It was fun."
