WASHINGTON -- Left-handed reliever Robert Carson was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas late Saturday night.
Sandy Alderson said one motivation was to give the thin 51s bullpen help at the back end as it enters the Pacific Coast League playoffs. Of course, Carson has an 8.24 ERA and has surrendered nine homers in 19 2/3 innings at the major league level this season.
Alderson confirmed right-hander Vic Black, the reliever acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates, will join the Mets on Sunday. Alderson also strongly implied a position player would be promoted after the 51s complete their game, to replace Ike Davis. The GM also did not deny that Tim Byrdak would join the Mets.
