Byrdak confirms he won't return to Queens

Free-agent lefty reliever Tim Byrdak confirmed he will not be returning to the Mets, not even on a minor-league deal. He tweeted Friday:

Byrdak, 40, returned in September after rehabbing from shoulder surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule.

The Mets could use a safety net in terms of lefty relief. Scott Rice and Josh Edgin are the favorites for bullpen spots. Otherwise, the Mets are light in that area until prospects Jack Leathersich and Adam Kolarek are deemed ready.
