Vic Black likely to be back Monday

CINCINNATI -- Right-handed pitcher Vic Black will most likely be activated from the disabled list on Monday, the first day he’s eligible, manager Terry Collins said on Friday.

Black, who’s been out since Aug. 24 with a herniated disk in his neck, threw a bullpen session on Thursday and showed now no ill effects a day later.

“His side went great,” Collins said before Friday's game against the Reds. “He feels great.”

Collins also was encouraged by the progress of second baseman Daniel Murphy, who’s been sidelined since Aug. 25 with right calf strain. He is eligible to be activated on Tuesday.

“Murph did some stuff today that was real positive, so hopefully, he’s on track,” Collins said. “He did some running today, moved side-to-side, did some lateral movement stuff, took some BP.”

Murphy, a first-time All-Star this season, was hitting .301 with nine home runs and 53 runs batted in over 126 games.
